The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for the Big Island’s north-, east- and south-facing shores until 6 p.m. Sunday.
Waves are forecast to range in height from 6 to 9 feet, according to the service. The surf is expected to rise Friday night and remain elevated through the weekend.
A high surf advisory means waves along affected shores will be higher than normal and dangerous rip currents are expected. Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are urged to exercise caution and take heed to any advice given by ocean safety officials.
